About Port Lincoln
Port Lincoln is a small city of 14000 people and boast a large
natural harbour.
It was originally considered for the capital of South Australia,
but because of the lack of fresh water Adelaide was chosen
instead.
The first settlers arrived in March 1839 aboard the ships Abeona,
Dorset and Porter, there is a commemorative plaque at the first
Landing Site on the Northern side of the city near Axel Stenross
Maritime Museum.
The main industries in Port Loncoln are fishing, a large grain
loading facility and tourism.
For the visitor
While in Port Lincoln you can take a boat trip to visit tuna
farms, swim with sealions, fish for king george whiting or if you
want a bit more excitement you can go diving with the great white
sharks.
In town itself there are numerous museums to visit, if looking for
a souvenir check the Gallery Shop on the foreshore all our local
artists exhibit there.
Only 15 minutes drive from Arrandale cottage is the entrance of
the Lincoln National Park, you will find some spectacular scenery
and beaches. Also not far is Sleaford Mere and Sleaford Bay,
Mikkira (the only koala colony on the Eyre Peninsula is located
there) a favorite spot with the locals for picnics. A bit further
is Fishery Bay (a popular surf beach) and the entrance to Whalers
Way with it's rugged coastline.
